Competition

Answering Nature’s call is unavoidable.

In India, we do not have adequate and appropriate toilets in public areas, especially for female/transgenders. This results in the public, utilising any area, open field, and other such places. It’s not only unhygienic but also does not give basic privacy for those people. Wherever available, most of the Public Toilets are unclean, dark, unventilated, not maintained, not functional, in short, basically unusable.

The Challenge

This PUBLIC TOILETS Architectural Design Competition aims to provide a Public Toilet that is not only usable but such that the next person doesn’t have to think twice before using it.

The design should not only be by itself functional, but also be able to be installed or located in the available space, plus enable portability, i.e., can be lifted and moved to another location, without too much of modifications. And either in one unit or as a module.

The built-up area would also include some spaces for Waiting, for interacting with others, to make it maintained, and cleaned, on a regular and frequent basis, so that the area remains hygienic.
